Rotorua to Napier

Overcast start to the day so we didn’t waste any time getting on the road. Got away about 8:30 and the roads weren’t busy. It was a long drive through lots of pine forest areas and something we have not been used to here – long straight roads. We were diverted at Taupo because of massive road works but eventually found the road to Napier. It wasn’t long before the roads became twisty and went up and down. We stopped on route for our usual drink and cake before continuing on to Napier. We finally arrived at about 1pm and did a bit of supermarket shopping before going to have a good look around the centre of Napier. – destroyed by earthquake in 1931 and rebuilt in art deco style – see the photos. We are now booked into our site and will be having fish & chips for tea tonight.

Just one night here and tomorrow we have a long trip down to Wellington – just over 300k.

  1. glad to see you're continuing the cake stops! Drive safely on the long trip tomorrow. We're in Vegas right now, just got back from seeing Tom Jones! xx
